Here is a website for more info and other resources are listed at the bottom of the page: http://www.bls.gov/oco and search 'social worker'. A SW must have at least a bachelor's (4 year) degree, if not a master's (about 6 years of college) degree. They may do counseling and assessment of people from all socioeconomic backgrounds and any ages and work in hospitals, nursing homes, non-profit agencies and if have a master's degree, private practice (after getting experience). Their job can be emotionally draining albeit rewarding at the same time. Those in the mental health field tend to have a high burn-out rate due to the nature of their work. For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

My mom is a social worker and she works with all kinds of people. She has worked with traumatized people from a bank robbery, violent marriages, bullied teenagers and bad ones, anything you can think of really and my mom also got the parents of a boy who got killed around my neighborhood in her office. But somebody always getting killed around my neighborhood.
