Front desk at nice hotel - how much salary and job info?
Asked by wildfl0wer
I have a job interview at an upscale hotel for front desk clerk. How much can I expect to make and / or any websites to check out the industry.

Have you you checked out the website of the hotel itself? And it's sister properties and brands? For example if you are going for an interview with a Mariott company you are going to want to look at your particular prospective hotel, and other Mariott brands in the area (Courtyard, Fairfield, Residence Inn, etc.) You can just do a google search and find them all. That will tell you what the brand is about and you can go into your interview feeling better prepared to know what you are talking about.
As far as wages go, I have worked for as little as $7 and as much as $12. These were between limited service properties in a smallish college town ($7), a full service property in a large town ($9), and as a front office supervisor in a large town at a limited service property ($12). I know that my desk clerks now start at $9
Good luck in your interview!!!!

In the US, you can expect between $11-18 an hour or so, depending on the location and the benefits.

It is going to depend on the area that you live in and on what the competitive wages are in that area. When I was in college (10 years ago) I worked the front desk of the nicest hotel in that town and only made $6.15/hr. You should be able to find something out on your state's employment website on the average wage in your state and/or area.

Until you actually land the job you can't expect to make anything.
If you do get it, chances are you'll be earning from as low as $8 per hour to as much as $13 or $14 an hour. Very few; regardless of status, will pay much more than that for a front-desk clerk unless you're in a supervisory position.
