Hi there. I worked in Coal in Wyoming for 5 years. If you want to work in the work force there is no minimum education requirement. You will need to pass a drug test and health screening.
Starting wage was $21.50 and hr. and top pay $28 where I was working and we were on the low end of the pay scale in the Powder River Basin. I was making 26 bucks when I left after 5 years. In one year you will be making around 23-24 bucks. Now with out a lot of overtime I was getting 60K a year easy. If you do love the overtime you can make 90K but you won't have a life.
The schedule everyone works is the DuPont. It's a 28 rotating schedule. I loved it and I still work the same schedule.
Also the life style will be hard on your wife and kids if they aren't used to this schedule, because you will be sleeping when they are awake 7 days out of the month.
The schedule is 4 nights 3 off 3 days 1 off 3 nights 3 off 4 days then 7 off. All 12 hr days not including lunch and travel.
I hope this helps you and can answer more question is you need.
Also I forgot you will need MSHA safety Certification. After you hire on they will usually give you the class. If you take it your self it's a 100 bucks and 48 hours.
