First, let me state that I have no personal experience in working for a temp agency. But I have worked in offices where temp workers have been hired. Temps seem to either be very experienced and knowledgeable, or the best they are able to do is answer a one-line phone and take a message. But I am being a bit sarcastic. The only thing I do know for sure is that there are temp agencies who also provide training for their employees so that they can become more educated and employable. It works well for the agency, who is able to provide workers with a higher level of training, and the employees of the temp agency, who will be eligible for a greater number of assignments and, therefore, can earn more money. The employees, theoretically, would be eligible for a greater number of assignments. I don't know how temps are paid, but those who obtain training likely are able to earn more per hour. The best way to find this out is to contact some of the agencies in your area and ask whether they have an education or training program for their employees. If so, schedule a time when you can sit down with someone from the agency and explore your options. Likely, there are assignments that even the lesser experienced are capable of doing. I am looking for a position myself right now, after being off work for two years with a medical condition. If I can't find something soon, I too will be contacting the local temp agencies to see if they can provide me with assignments while I obtain additional training. My problem is that while I'm an excellent typist and am very fast, I know next to nothing about excel or similar software programs. In scanning the want ads, I see that nearly all positions for office workers require knowledge and experience with this type of software. So, yes, if I can obtain training without having to fork out additional money for it, you can bet that's what I will be doing, and hopefully earning money at the same time on assignments for which I am presently qualified. One final thing: I have read many times that those seeking more experience but who have no luck getting hired because of the lack of experience are encouraged to turn to temp agencies as a good way of getting that experience under your belt. That way, when you answer an ad in the future requiring X amount of experience, you won't have to worry that you will be rejected just on the basis of lack of experience. It may help you get your foot in the door for an interview.

It is nearly impossible to get entry level office jobs with a temp agency. As an employer, I hire temps to come in and do a job, not be trained on how to do a job.
For factory, packaging and other work, then temp services are utilized.
Your biggest problem is the economy has tanked and there are not many jobs out there and you are competing with people with years and years of experience and degrees.
Go and apply to them all, you may get lucky.
