Now that HIPS have been introduced in the UK, how much can a newly qualified home inspector expect to earn annyally?

From what I've heard - nothing. There are too many of them with not enough work to go round.

What are they supposed to do, is this yet more interference from the nanny state?

To be honest, current opportunities seem quite bleak. My brother in law has also passed but has been unable to secure his certificate as the training company have now gone bust. The whole training process was built on untested expectations and, as you might expect with government help, it's all gone pear shaped. My advice to you is not to rely on it for income but to try and get other work while you assess what happens with the whole nightmare.
