Which is best career workplace for an automotive technician?

A dealership (i.e. Jon Doe Chevrolet, Ford, etc...) or some kind of independent shop? Im currently a vocational ed. student working full time at a dealership..anyway what is best for the rest of my life?

sometimes small shops are easier to buy into after some years of dedication. look around the dealer ship and find out who has been there the longest and see if he enjoys his job or just coasting for a check.

hi, I think your question is a bit unfair. The reason I say that is because only you will know what is BEST for the rest of your life... you have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages with everything, especially jobs.. Bigger dealerships probably have better tools, more training and promotional opportunities than a 2-3 man shop that is behind someones house.. either way you decide I dont think you will go wrong, and you can always search for another job if you feel like you want more.
