Do you need to go to bartending school to be a bartender in california?

I am a student and like to make different kind of drinks with friend. I am also interested to find a part time job as a bartender. I want to know do i need to go to bar tending school in CA to find a bar tending job? Or is better for finding a job because went to bar tending school.

I live in Florida, however most likely it is the same in California. You don't have to go to school, however, as you mentioned above, it will be easier for you to find a job with the classes under your belt. Like with any job, the employer wants experience or education (or both). At-home experience will probably not suffice. Potential employers will want to see that you learned in a bar-environment, and have learned basic requirements of the job (like the wash-rinse-sanitize process). Also, in Florida, anyone who serves alcohol (bartenders, servers, managers) MUST be certified through a short (usually an hour) class on basic safety measures. However, bars are special in that your personality can get you a long way. It nevers hurts to stop into a bar, ask for a manager, and turn on the charm! Good luck to you!

there are these bar tending schools that are only like 2 weeks long. and I think they range in price but the one near me is around 500 bucks. then you take a test and then you are certafied.
