What are the duties of an accounts payable and/or accounts receivable clerk????

crisstype: I have an idea but I want to know exactly what they do so I can put it on my resume. Accounts payable takes care of payments for the company and accounts receivable of payments coming in. Thanks for the smart as$ answer though, I can always count on getting one for every question I ask on Y!A!

Beyond the basics, which are pretty obvious, they might include:
AP- negotiating terms with suppliers (to get discounts), filing credit applications, reconciling credit card statements to purchase orders, filing tax exempt certificates (if your company is tax emempt)
AR- collections calls, bank recs, processing wire transfers,
customer service issues if goods are returned for credit
All depends on the size of the company and how much overlap there is between departments.

Accounts Payables- process invocies for payments (where I work there are two type so invocies I deal with purchase or expenses, cut checks, deal with wire transfers, deals with vendors when they are looking for payment, fill out credit applications.
Accounts Receivables- deals with posting cheks, prepare deposits, it could call for collections as well depending on the size of the company, credit inquiries, send out monthly statements
