Whats the differences between product design and graphic design?
Asked by Walker Smith
I want to take occupational classes at college for design. But i dont know what the difference between these two are. What would i be doing as a career if i went into either of these fields? Is it stable? I like to draw more, but i wouldnt mind using a computer to make graphics. I aspire to make designs for tshirts, but i hear that is not the most stable choice. So what other choices of jobs would i have if i had a certificate in graphic or product design?

Best Answer:
Graphic design involves drawing, either manually or mechanically, or electronically. You may design logos, scripts, advertisements, and similar items. Your designs are viewed visually. Product design involves designing actual products such as tools, appliances, cutlery, furniture, etc. Your designs are intended to be produced into finished products that one can touch, feel or move around.
Both fields are worthwhile, both require education and an innovative mind. there is no reason why you cannot learn both and do both. Good luck.

Product design would be more engineering related
Graphic design would be more visual arts - I would choose this one based on your statements.
You must be able to use a computer to do your drawings.
