chick-fil-a is a good place to work. i started working there when i was 16 and got paid $6.75 an hour. you get 30 min breaks and 50% food when your working. the hours are not bad and flexible. you get to basically make your own schedule and when you want to work the following week. highly recommend it!

Large corporations pay better than locally owned stores, however, they tend to be more of a headache to work for. Do you want a job you enjoy or a job that pays more. You could work for Wal-Mart or Target and get paid more than working for a local store, but working for a local store might be more fun.

Food outlet like burger king or a grocery store. Could also ring around to local manufacturing companies as they like to pay minimum wage then adult wages.

If jobs for teens are hard to come by in your area (we're talking the usual fast-food and retail jobs), try making your own gig. There are dozens of ways you can make money if you are creative.
I know kids that make $6-$10 per week per yard, visiting a given yard twice a week, just picking up doggie-poo and bagging it up. We're talking a pooper-scooper and rubber gloves and a trash bag. The customer gets a poopie-free yard to entertain in, and you get income. Picture getting 20 such clients and how that will add up.
You can also supplement that with dog-walking, dog-training, and either dog/cat sitting on vacations or babysitting. Then there is flower bed preparing for each season (the customer buys the mulch and stuff and you provide the labor).
If you are on a PC, open up your Microsoft Office Suite and make a flyer for yourself listing your service offerings, print out a 1/2-page (8.5" x 5") flyer on some various colored paper and start knocking on doors in a likely local neighborhood.

Best paying would be:
1. Restaurant waiter, one with tips
2. Mailroom worker in a bank
3. Janitorial duties, part time
Depending on your grades you could also be an assistant/trainee at a business.

Since you have no work experience concentrate on what kind of experience will get you a better paying job in the future not now. What talents do you have? Look for someone who can be a mentor to you. The pay may not be great now but you will be ahead of everyone else in years to come.

You can work at a grocery store, McDonalds, Walmart, Target, a restaurant as a seater, Best Buy or Circuit City. They all will train younger people and will be flexible with your hours as different things come up for school.

My advice: don't work at Toys R Us. At least in my area (I don't know about others) the lack of communication made it horrible, stressful, and all-around hell to work there for the six weeks that I did.
Also, if you ski or snowboard and live with a mountain within easy distance, you may still be able to find a job as an instructor. Many don't pay that well, but it'll give you experience that can get you higher wages working elsewhere.
