I'm a pharmacist and trust me It is HUGELY corrupt When a company gets it's overinflated research paid off , the price of the drugs never comes down Most of the money goes to providing perks for Doctors ....trips , laptops , etc It always struck me as odd that Cancer drugs and Heart Meds are always extremely expensive.....whereas drugs that people don't really need to save their like (muscle relaxants , anti anxiety drugs) are never very expensive

Sales are not corrupt. The huge companies that sell drugs are corrupt. They don't want the US to have a national health care system. It would lower the cost of drugs.

Ha! Why do drug companies advertise on TV? We aren't doctors so why solicit us?,,,, It's a huge racket that the govt. enjoys stuffing there hands in the pocket of. So YES in my opinion they are.

A:
Well I am in the business of Pharmaceutical Marketing and I would say that many pharmaceutical companies do involve in corrupt practices. They give gifts and incentives to the doctors in order to promote the sales which otherwise are banned according to the law. It is a very very complex issue.

the companies spend millions and years to develop a drug, then they get only a few years before it goes to generic and everyone can sell it cheaper, I think they deserve whatever they can get, like the oil companies.

A:
No. Salespeople sell - docs buy and perscribe.

A:
If Walmart can sell generic drugs for $4.00, and other drug companies sell their's for 4 times that amount, the answer is yes. And since my mother had to get a supplemental insurance policy to help with the cost of her prescriptions, one drug alone that use to cost $54.00 is now $170.00, and she pays $98. There is price gouging if you have insurance. I use to work as a buyer for retail and hospital pharmacies. You would not have believed what the markup was on the drugs that I checked in and priced.

being in pharmaceticals for 20 years, the simple answer is yes, let's start at the bottom shall we the all important "sales rep" they go doc to doc, hospital to hospital, giving "facts and data" to push the sales of their new drug, they wine they dine, they prostitute themselves out for the sale, it is their job to push the merchandise, and if you are good at lying, and can sleep at night, your good looking, with a corporate credit card, you can go far..

Drug companies make something that is beneficial to humanity, but their goal is not to alleviate suffering but rather to turn a profit. They do NOT have a vested interest in the health of the community at large- after all, if we were all healthy and didn't need their drugs, they'd go out of business! I don't like their practices, I don't trust their vetting process, and I don't believe their claims. Yup, corrupt...

A:
Of course it is. Aside from trying to get rid of vitamins to make us more sick so they can make even bigger profits, pharmaceutical corporations using AMA lobbyist pay big bucks, that they make from overpriced drugs, to pay congress not to put a freeze on drug costs and let the pharms get away with charging as high a price as they can get us to pay, knowing that some people can't live without some drugs. Our taxes that we pay to universities to research treatments for diseases and create drugs are taken over by the pharms and patented. They then have the right to sue anyone using the same formula that the tax payer gave to colleges to create. It's a monumental scam that our government does nothing about and even protects the big pharms takeover of our health care.

If you're an outsider looking in and have always wanted to get your foot in the door, but just can't get in, YES it is. If you're currently in the industry making a decent amount of living by being a resource to the doctors and their patients, NO it is not.
