What are my chances of getting hired as a dental technician? I am a male/ a mature 20 year old?
Asked by ac360rules
Hello, I am 20 years old, a male, and I am a pre-dental student at a four-year university. I am blessed with skilled hands, and being able to be precise with any size of art/structure I like to work on in my spare time as a hobby. I really love dentistry, and I was wanting to start working for a dental laboratory, executing with crowns, molds, ex cetera....What are my chances of receiving on-the-job training? I am mature for my age by the way. Also, if available, could you please give me some advice on what to say/how to approach the owner of the dental laboratory in getting hired? Could I simply just come out and ask "Hi, I am ____, I'm a pre-dent studnet at ____, could I shadow and receive on the job training and eventually work part-time as a dental technician?"

You can try as most technicians learn their craft on the job, but many employers prefer to hire those with formal training.
