Can I get a job in NYC with an Associates Degree in Human Services??
Asked by KEKiLi
I really want to move to NYC next year after I get my degree, and then try and continue my education, maybe even get another degree. I was jw if it would be easy for me to get a job in the Human Services field with my degree? What jobs could I get? And will it be enough pay for living?

NYC is very competitive. Your degree wouldn't get you anywhere. Not there. You'd need at least a bachelors and work experience to even be taken seriously. More likely than not the jobs would be going to people with masters. You would be lucky to get a temp job in the mail room or as a waitress somewhere. New York is very expensive. Go to the NYC Craigslist site and look at what people are paying for rent. You would have to have an awful lot of money saved up front. If you want to experience NYC, consider finishing your education there. You've already knocked off two years of it, now you'd just be going for the last 2. Get an internship so that you can make some connections. Or maybe you could just set up an internship for your self through your school for a few months perhaps a summer vacation? But even that won't be easy and be prepared to have money on hand. NYC is an amazing place but it costs. Get all your student loans before hand. Once you have lived their a bit you could decide if you want to stay there.

I admire your efforts. With all respect and kindness, most employers are really looking for a Bachelor's or even a Master's. I would not move out of state until I earned one or the other. It provides more security, stability, and income. Good luck!

That degree will get you far in New York City. You have a chance at selling newspapers on corners. You are even qualified to get a job as a waitress in some backstreet cafe. You better be armed with more than that, if you want to survive in the Big Apple.
