Does the federal government require a civil service exam or not?
Asked by Defunct
I've heard lots of people tell me that the civil service exam is a thing of the past, but the G&NP area is flooded with people asking about the October 2007 civil service exam results. What is up?

Best Answer:
Civil service jobs are typically filled by examination. The majority — approximately 80% — of government jobs are filled through a competitive exam-ination of your back-ground, work exper-ience, and education, not through a written test. The types of civil service tests include written tests, in-basket exercise, essay test, in-basket exercise, assessment center, performance tests, physical abilities, psychological, and interviews.

A:
From personal experience, no. I am a secretary with the Federal government, and all I had to do was apply and go through an interview. Now, for city employment, yes almost every job I've seen in my city requires a civil service exam. For federal jobs, you can go to www.usajobs.gov and search for jobs in your city. On the HOW TO APPLY tab, it will tell you the application process. Good luck!
