What place would be great as a first job besides a fast food restaurant?
Asked by m&ms
I've never had a job before, and I'm 19. I would never work in a fast food restaurant like McDonalds or Wendys, but it seems like elsewhere, they'd need a decent resume to at least consider you. What places would be fun to work at that doesn't require a loaded resume?

Best Answer:
A supermarket. A large pet-care center An electronics store such as Best Buy Do you currently attend college? As for your resume, almost ALL employers would be THRILLED to see school activities listed such as volunteer activities, babysitting, virtually anything that demonstrates a level of selfless responsibility. After all who wants to take a chance on someone who wouldn't be responsible? At the very least, bring letters from people who know you and can vouch for your abilities/skills, BUT> NOT FROM IMMEDIATE FAMILY or FRIENDS!!!< It's better than nothing. it gives you a leg up on the competition GOOD LUCK --IC PS. I can't blame you for not wanting to work for a fast food place, however if you do look into a place such as an eat in resturant. I did not get my first job until age 21 myself.

A:
at a local department store

Looks like you can only work retail which would be fast food or stores. You'll find out how fun it is to work for practically nothing and may decide to go back to school to get more training. The only way a resume gets loaded is through hard work.

Hostess or waitress Almost any kind of seasonal employment like Lowe's or Home Depot for the spring Temp agency Car sales (?) Your biggest hurdle is going to be having a hiring manager believe you have never been employed at 19. That's rare & be prepared to answer that. Have references ready to put on an application.

My first job at 16 was at a local party store chain. My second job, a year later, was at Circuit City. There are a lot of entry-level jobs you can go into without going to food service. If you still want to work in food service, places such as Einstein Bros. Bagels, TCBY, or Subway might be your best picks.
