I am pretty sure you need a CDL, but is there anything else?

I'm in Texas and my mom drove a school bus for 24 years.
You'll have to get a CDL, pass a yearly physical, be good with kids. I think (not sure about it) you'll also have to attend training classes designed for school bus drivers.
Other requirements...
A near perfect driving record with NO DUIs. If you have a DUI on your record, even in the distant past your chances of getting hired are very slim.
No criminal history of any kind (not traffic related).
Keep in mind because you are transporting kids the state will be very closely monitoring your driving record, including off-the-clock activity. One DUI / hit-N-run / etc and you'll be out of a job. Any other moving violation...an unpaid suspension, length depends on the severity of the violation.
One other thing to be aware of...if another driver on the road (not necessarily a bus driver) reports you to the transportation center for bad driving expect to be reprimanded when you return from your driving route.
Your best source of Michigan's requirements would be your school district's transportation department. The district probably has contact information for the transportation dept on their website.
