How is being a food server different in the United States than in Britain?
Asked by Farther s
How is the art of serving executed in the United States vs anywhere else, say Britain for example? Is the food served from left to right? Order taken from left to right? Hows everything done?

The biggest thing is that US servers make their living off of their tips. In Europe they make much more and it is not customary to tip. From what I remember they seemed to serve the woman/children first and they still served clockwise. But i have only been to England and Ireland so I cant attest to anywhere else.

The most obvious thing I can think of is that Americans like lots of ice in their drinks, and when I was in Britain, I was almost never served ice in my drink.

A:
Generally left to right or the first to say something. Food is normally served on the left and plates taken from the right. It depends on the restaurant and the people you are serving.
