Is it better to work as a pharmacy tech or an operator in a call center?
Asked by Charles
I was seeing the ads in the paper where there were call centers hiring customer service representatives and the starting wages were similar to those of a pharmacy technician pluas they offered raises and bonuses. No certification is required to work as on operator, well actually some places I know will hire uncertified pharmacy techs as well, so which would be a better job?

A pharmacy tech definitely holds a better future than a telephone operator. I used to do the telemarketing thing... it gets to be no fun real fast...

Depends, if you don't mind people yell at you all the time, call center, but if you can get a job as a pharmacy tech without a certification, go for it.

As someone who has worked in a few call centers, I can tell you unequivocally that if you want a LASTING job without as much stress, go for the pharmacy tech work. Call centers have a high turnover rate for a reason - most of them are so insufferable that nobody wants to work there for very long. The ones that ARE actually any good never stay open very long. Not to mention that you'll probably be working with a higher quality of people at the pharmacy than at the call center.

I assume you have a higher chance of moving up the job ladder with a pharm tech degree, but then again, you do have to pay a lot more to go to school to be a pharm tech.

Well answering annoying calls sometimes makes you really stressed out and pissed off. Schedules are sometimes not good too. Better if you work as a Pharma Tech.

I have worked as a pharmacy tech, it is fun if you work in a hospital, otherwise it sucks. It also pays like crap. On the other hand, answering phones all day is not all that great either.
