Guy O gave some really good numbers. However, since the position you're interviewing for is in a non-profit organization, you should expect that they will probably be paying below industry standards. When it comes to salary, the last thing you want to do is take below your minimum. You have to decide what the number is for you. If they make you an offer that is too low, then you need to decide if it will work for you. If not, then you need to move on and find other opportunities. Basically, they want to avoid this outcome by asking you ahead of time what your salary range is. So, my recommendation would be for you to give them a truthful number, based on what your minimum needs are. If they move forward without pursuing you, then it wasn't the right opportunity. If that happens, that will obviously be hard. But just think of it this way - they've done a favor for the both of you. Good luck!
