I worked in a dental office as a receptionist and dental assistant. Some of the duties I had in the office were:
Checking patients in and out. Getting their information (health insurance, address etc.) all up to date. Making sure to bill them for their services that day. This included medical codes for insurance companies. My office had a sheet with a list of services and their codes right beside of them.
Answering the phone. Scheduling appointments and rescheduling if a patient missed their appointment. Making phone calls to get patients in for check-ups.
Insurance claims. If a claim was rejected, I had to research why and if the code was sent in wrong. Making sure all the claims were sent in properly so that we got paid was also an important job. Knowing what insurance companies would pay for and what they would not. Calling insurance companies was a daily thing.
Files. Getting files out for the next days patients and putting files away from that day's patients.
And being an assistant to the doctors, I also had duties in the back with cleaning up and sanitizing. Getting paitents ready for the doctor.
It was very hectic at times but I did like the job. I quit because the doctors were married to each other and beginning to go through what turned out to be a nasty divorce. It made the work place very upsetting at times, and I didn't need the drama. But when I walked into the job, I had no previous training before(other than office skills from high school). It took me a little while to catch onto the assisting part, but I learned a lot and had some fun at times.
Good luck with your interview!!
