Are Labor Unions still needed?
Asked by bubba42511
I first asked this question one year ago and decided to open it again. I work for a large union contractor(boilermakers, pipefitters, laborers, millwrights, ironworkers, teamsters, etc.). These people seem to think they deserve the world on a silver platter because they are union. Unions were first enacted to improve hellish working conditions, I would say that in the U.S.A. today conditions are no where close to where they were in the late 1800's early 1900's and current laws and regulation and agencies will never allow it to return to those conditions.

It is foolish to think that those who use people to make their profits would not over time change labour laws to what they want and it is only the voice of the workers the unions which will stop them ~~

Your analysis is correct. We don't need unions today. In fact, in the last 20 years, unions have ruined a lot of domestic business. Many moved over seas for cheaper labor etc. In addition, foreign countries got into the auto industry and have been very successful. G.M. and other American auto makers are now competing with these other countries and not doing very well keeping up.

As long as people imagine themselves as victims, and hate those who assume responsibility for their lives, and greed still remains a major player in the lives of some... labor unions will remain psychologically needed. The labor union is the natural coat for the liberal-type personality syndrome individual because it "fits" that person's needs. It assumes "responsibility" for the person, it makes decisions for the person, and the leadership is often dishonest... that is they make business "bad" and "responsible" for the greed the union is driven by. Typical dissociation - projection process. Support for the union also feeds the delusional needs of those who feel guilty that they have money... without them having to actually separate themselves from their hated money. Finally by threat unionists can force business to pay more and this is almost like one making progress in work without having to actually do something to earn the money they are extorting. Almost like Jesse Jackson and his using threat of blacks to extort big bucks from corporations. Yea, such treadmills of let's pretend are still needed. Peace
