Does anybody know how to get a part time job as Nursing Assistant (CNA?

I am currently a college student majoring in nursing. People have been telling me to get a job as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant)... does anybody know the process of this? Do you need to take extra classes to become a Nursing Assistant? I just wanted to make some extra money to pay for my tuition and get some experience. Thanks

The nursing homes need CNA and will train and certify as you work and learn. Just pick one close to home.

I think that laws and rules vary by state.... I would talk to your counselor or one of your instructors. I know in my state that nursing students take a class called Nursing Essentials and that they can work as CNAs then. If that's not in your curriculum, look into a course to get your CNA. I believe it takes about 6 weeks. Good luck! (the 1st poster is right... many nursing homes will pay for you to be trained so you can work for them)

Although I don't know the criteria for becoming a CNA, you may want to go to an agency that places you out on jobs. It's basically a temp service. This would be ideal for you since you are able to work part-time, and choose the hours you work. Just let them know when your available, and they will match you up. This would be great experience because you would work in different locations and get a feel for what it will be like when you're certified. Just look up employment and then find agencies, and medical. Best to you!

You need to become eligible to take the state exam where you live. Some states allow you to challenge the exam (call your state dept of nursing or dept of health and human services), though generally you need to have completed your first semester in clinical, complete a CNA course with at leat 75 clock hours at a tech school or a community college, or get hired by a place that will train you to have enough training to be elligible to take the state test. Call nursing homes in your area to see if they offer free training. Someone mentioned working for an agency. In my expeirence agencies won't hire you without 1 year of experience as a CNA.
