I want to apply for a job with the post office but my work history is very poor. Will they consider hiring me?
Asked by sam_m44
I have had many jobs over the past 10 years and have been fired/terminated from many of them. I am wondering if the background check includes work history and would a conviction for petty theft also disqualify me? Anybody who has worked or works for the post office and has gone through the process would be of great help. Thank You.

I'm gonna give an answer from the point of view of post office here. The post office is becoming a dieng entity, email, IM and online banking capabilities are reducing the need for postal workers. Also many people would still like to work for the post office today. So you are competeing with more people who probably have a better work history than yourself for fewer positions. Do the math and it just doesn't add up. You need to build up a stable work history and with your past the one place I would suggest is fast food. The work sucks and never really changes but they are hurting for people and after awhile you could give the post office a serious look. But a stable work history has got to be number one.

I start Tuesday as and RCA. When filling out my application, I tallied 20+plus jobs in 10 years. The postmaster told me that disclosure was the key in my application. I had no arrest record but was assured that if I had, as long as it was disclosed, along with accurate work history, I would not be disqualified. However, since I applied for a driving position any reckless driving charges or more than 1 speeding ticket in the past 3 years would disqualify me. Just be honest and don't forget to make a copy of your app!!!! Oh!! Make sure your app is legible. Mine wasn't and it held me up for about 2 months. Also, be patient. They don't get in a hurry!!!
Good Luck!!!!
