Oracle DBA or Network Admin - which is best ? Which field to choose if given a chance. Pls reply

I believe Oracle DBAs get paid more but i am not entirely sure how much. Network admins usually get around 50-90k depending on where you work and how good you are. As mentioned above Cisco is the place to be for Networking so if you wish to go that route then take a look into certifications. More info on certifications below.

You are comparing apples and oranges here. I believe DBA may have a higher salary potential. However if you went for all the Cisco certs that might be as good or better. Pick what you enjoy doing more.

In both careers you can be at the implementation level of the technology or at the architecture level. If you think about a typical company, there is usually one lead architect for networking and a lot of folks at the implementation level that make it all work. The same holds true for a DBA where there is usually one architect, however in this case there may be many architects each looking over an application or set of applications and the skill sets are different. You may have SAP running on Oracle database and then have Oracle Fusion Applications running on another Oracle database and that is another skill set and another opportunity for a architect. The architects demand a better wage and I think there are more opportunities to be an architect in the DBA space.
