Unit clerks, are the secretaries of the nursing units. They answer phones, and manage paperwork. It can be a good job for someone who wants to be an RN, because it teaches them to look at all aspects of the orders, and the chart, which makes doing admissions, and other RN functions easier and faster.
The other aspect of this, is when the other medical office assistant graduates might not be able to get a position in a clinic, you might be able to find one at a hospital, as a Unit Clerk or Admissions clerk with that specialty. It does take longer, but might give you more job opportunities.
A consideration might be to finish the MOA course, and if you find the job market poor or you dont like working in the field, then consider picking up the unit clerk specialization later, if that is possible.
Good luck in the future!
