What therapist/counselor careers make the most money?
Asked by Jessica♥Christopher
I'm extremely vain when it comes to making money. I want a lot. I would love to be something like an addictions counselor or a therapist for children but from what I've researched, they don't make a lot of money. What other types of jobs are there in those categories that make a lot?

People who go into counseling and/or therapy careers do it because they love to help people. They do not go into those "helping fields" to make a lot of money because there is not a lot of money paid to people in those jobs. There is the one in a quadrillion chance that Oprah will be sued again sometime in her lifetime and need the services of someone like Dr. Phil, and then she'll help you get famous enough to get your own show like he has--but how old are you. Dr. Phil already had his career for like 30 years when Oprah "discovered" him and helped him to the fame that increased his income.....in other words, don't bank on it. This is not a lucrative field. Period. I'm an ex-counselor because $20,000.00- $35,000.00 just doesn't go very far. You might be able to make more than that, if you live in a large metropolitan area, but guess what, your taxes and expenses will also be higher. To be fair, I should say that was the average salary when I left that field. Now it could be higher, but inflation has raised the cost of everything else as well. You can go on salaries.com to find out what average salaries are now, but I have to tell you, I have found the figures on that site to be inflated for my new career field.
