I have waded through a few resumes for various positions and can tell you a couple of tips that sell. 1. Always address the letter to a person. You found out their name (and correct spelling) when you rang them to ask some further sensible details on the job. 2. Always have a covering letter, half page is usually heaps. 3. Only ever send a resume that is one page. That means half of two or one third of three. It is also less than one and a bit. 4. Always ring the day after they got the resume to make sure they got it and ask what they think. 5. Always ring if you are unsuccessful and thank the person for the opportunity and ask what you would need to do or have next time to succeed. At least then you learn something from the experience. If you send out hundreds of resumes you might get a job. It would be pretty lucky if it was a great job. Take the time with each one. Treat it like you really want and need it and are doing something smart and positive about your future, because, guess what? Good luck, Jackson.

Always write a cover letter. It fills in the details. For example: - it gives the company an idea of why an out-of-state person is applying at their company. - it explains why you want to work as an electrical engineer - it tells them who you are which is more than a list of education and skills can tell them - it tells them when you will be available for an interview and on what date you will be available for work After the interview, don't forget the thank you letter

I am a hiring manager. I get ten or a hundred applications for every opening I have. I want to hire the "best" person that I can. If you think that your resume' alone does the best job of selling 'you', then send it. If you want to do some more convincing, add a cover letter. I'll warn you though, whatever you send, I read only until I lose interest.
