Career Questions and Answers
Should I become a Data Input Associate or an Account Clerk?
Asked by Defunct
I work in a warehouse for the government and am itching for something better.
Data Input: I've already passed the test and there are plenty of openings if you wait long enough.
Account Clerk: The test is difficult and I'd have to study hard for it. Less openings and I think it pays a little less than Data Input. However, it would look better on my resume.
PS the Account Clerk job would be much harder to learn and do on a daily basis.
DVS,
I sort mail right now. Data Input would be more fun.
To Rob,
I think Account Clerk pays just slightly less per hour. Less than a dollar, I think.
To Vic, both of these jobs are still within the same government agency.

Well if you're looking for an easy, soul-destroying job, go for the data entry!
However, if you're looking for more of a challenge, something that won't put you into an apathetic, robotic state day after day, something that will actually make you use your head, then please, please become an account clerk
I've had to do a lot of data input, and it sucks my soul right out of my body.

Well, sounds like you've already answered your question. You said, you've already passed the test for Data Input Associate and you said that the test for accounting is hard. (sounds like you don't want it, right?)So it's an obvious answer.
Well, in terms of getting your resume look good, and getting that "bucks", study hard to earn that $2 or $3 more on your hourly pay, instead of Data Input Associate.
Good Luck!

It is not advisable to change a secured Government job !.Since your aptitude suits Data Input Associate ,please expertise in the same .

Soul-destroying LMAO WOW! I think you hit a nerve lol
Pick the job you think you'd enjoy more. If you've already passed the test why not put some resumees out there and see what happens.
For me I would definitely pick the data input job cuz I hate math =P

Please ...Please consider your change of careers very carefully. Many Government Employees consider that "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence" and on so many fronts it isn't.
Consider the job security that you have ....its not secure outside believe me!
Are there are any internal courses you can take where you are?
Is there any prospects for job sharing etc
Whatever you do,do not leave your current job until you have gained the next.
Its a proven fact that companies are more apt to employ someone who is in work than out of it
I wish you every success
