Can anyone tell me some general qualifications for working in a doctor's office?
Asked by muchluv4pets
I am currently an EMT, and I would like to start working in a doctor's office. I would like to know what I can do to maybe increase my chances of being hired. The hours of an EMT REALLY suck and it's sooo hard to find daycare because of it. I would like to stay in a medical setting with daytime hours and weekends off. I don't think I have a preference as to what type of office. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Amazingly enough, there are none. In a private practice, the doc can hire whomever he wants and train them; everything is under his license. That being said; in general if you need to work front office you would need a knowledge of their computer office systems-for appointments, billing, schedules etc; as well as phone skills, organization, filing etc Med term you should have already. Depending on what goes on in the back; given shots, do simple lab tests, draw blood, give meds, take VS, vision checks, urine tests, hearing possibly, set up exam trays, assist with procedures, wound care, patient education, patient teaching--it depends on what type of practice the doc has. We hired EMTs to work our small walk-in clinic in Ocean city, maryland. They did all back office.

EMT or not will not affect your chance to work in Doc's office. because without some sort of medical or nursing degree, you can't touch the patient. So you just get resume done to indicate your typing, and phone skills. Most Doc office looking for receiptionist or file insurance claim.... so, go to Monster.com or any job website to find the right job description for your position. they write your resume according to the job desc. then when you go interview, dress professionally, and speak clearly, then you should be fine.
