What are the requirments to do a daycare in your home?
Asked by SaRaH
I am interested in doing daycare out of my home but do not know what is required or where to begin. I live in california. I know that ECE classes are required to get your liscense but am I able to do it without a liscense? any advice would be helpful.

It may be illegal to do it without a license. Call the local licensing authority & ask. Be ware though because they're biased - they want your licensure fees. Ask them to cite the statutes or regulations then look them up online. Here's the state link: http://www.daycare.com/california/state15.html

You need to check out the safety and health laws and regulations in your area. (This is an often overlooked aspect to setting up any home based practise). In the meantime you could start out now by doing some low cost advertising or getting friends, or friends of friends and associates to provide you with some business. Be sure to get some testimonials from them (makes for powerful marketing weaponry later). That way if you find ECE classes are a must for you, you can work on your business at the same time as completing whatever compliance tasks that are required.

Okay My mother owns her own daycare so I know something about this 1. you need to have a license 2. you should have 1 or 2 people helping you 3. you should be able give the children one snack in the morning, lunch and another snack in the afternoon (healthy snacks) 4. My moms daycare is at our house so you could do it at your house 5. teach the children good manners, how to count, and to eat healthy **I could go on and on but I hope this helps!*
