What salary can an entry-level paralegal expect in Houston?
Asked by Rose E
I have a Communications degree from a four-year college and am a 36 year old female with years of telecom experience. I am considering getting a paralegal certificate from a non-ABA acknowledged continuing studies program at a local university. What kind of entry-level salary can I expect in Houston, a recession-resistant city?

You already have three stikes against you...
1. No legal experience
2. Paralegal certificate instead of degree
3. Non ABA approved program
Considering these, you probably won't even be able to find a paralegal job. Don't be suprised if you have to start as a legal secretary instead of a paralegal. Even those with paralegal degrees have a very hard time finding employment without any law office experience. I suggest either getting a paralegal degree or atleast getting the certificate from an ABA approved school.
If you find employment, you will make between $30,000 and $36,000 per year your first few years.
Like the first poster said, go to salary.com. But keep in mind, those rates are for ideal candidates with experience and education so you will need to look at the lower end of the scale as oppossed to the middle.

I would suggest going to salary wizard on the website salary.com and entering your educational information and experience. From there you will see if you qualify as a Paralegal I or II range. The link is provided.

I would suggest getting a degree in Paralegal Studies. And the amount depends on experience and the firm you are working for.
