I work in support at a retail store, can I get a second job in sales at a different retail store?
Asked by Girl Face
I work at a department store and my position is a signer/support. I have an interview soon at a different department store to work in cosmetics/sales. Is this allowed? It shouldn't be considered a "conflict of interest" because I'm not in management or anything, right? PS: if it makes a difference the two stores are Macy's and Gottchalks, respectively.

If your employee handbook does not specifically prohibit such outside employment, you would have a good case to be able to do it. I would always discuss your intentions with your supervisor, though, to avoid unpleasantness when the news eventually gets out. Ethically, though, you should keep the two jobs absolutely separate and never share the other's business practices with the second or first employer.
Many years of H/R management.
