what do i do i need to get a job as a junior drafter?
Asked by scorpio_89
im thinking of doing drafting for a year while i figure out what to study at uni. i studied graphics (where we used Auto-Cad for pretty much everything) at high school right up to grade 12, and i mostly got A's in it. would this be enough to get a drafting job at the junior level? (i finished grade 12 a year ago though so i might be a bit rusty with auto-cad)

What a coincidence! I'm a Scorpio too and I use a lot of Autocad. :) I study architecture in college and about to graduate. I think you definitely have qualifications to become a junior drafter at an architecture or a construction firm, but don't expect to be paid much. Take a course at your local community college just to freshen up your skills, and start applying to companies. Best way is to find places that you would be interested in working for and contact them yourself saying what your qualifications are and what you hope to gain from them. You might want to look at you local AIA chapter website for possible job listings, since its hard to find it at typical job search websites. Good luck
