What is the difference between an asst and a coordinator?

are they totally different jobs or are they similar? I mean i know it depends on the company but what are the differences between the two and do coordinator jobs usually pay better?

An assistant generally has the role of being assigned to assist a particular manager or department. Typically with meetings, calendars, travel arrangements and sometimes other things. A coordinator is generally working on administrative tasks, but not specifically calendars, travel arrangements or things like that. Usually coordinating project type work and sometimes working across departments with many different personnel.
