What's the process for joining the Painter's Union in Michigan?

I'm a Contractor, with the economy the way it is, I don't have the work I once did. I need steady work & the Union seems to have constant work. Is there a way around the apprenticeship part? I don't need to be trained & i've heard there is a way around it. Any help? I've called a Union this morning & i'm waiting for a call back.

you say you are waiting for a call from the union. There is apprenticeship part and for details go to www.google.com, www.dc91.com, www.uofmskilled trades.org/apprentice.html There is international union for painters and allied trades..you can get details sendng mail to the union, since i have no idea further.
