I work in operations at a financial services firm. You can be hired with just about any sort of educational background. The key is to be able to understand how things work, how to drive efficiency, and how to work with clients.
If you are still in school, you can always study operations or business management as a field. If not, then you're still OK to apply with any sort of experience.
I know that corporations in the manufacturing field also hire this skill set.
Check out websites of financial firms and corporations for job descriptions and more information -- then start applying for jobs. If you are hired and do well, you can certainly build a good management career.
Good luck!
