Career Questions and Answers

How do I start a career as a makeup artist in a funeral home?
Asked by
Ive searched online but only found ways to become a mortician. I realize that in most funeral homes one person does everything, but Im not sure I can handle embalming someone. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You might want to try to find a makeup artist message board and ask around there. It's a unique question, yes, but if you're serious about it and ask intelligent questions about it you might find some info there. To be honest, you'll probably need to start practicing on live people, so educating yourself about how to apply makeup to the living would be a good start. In that case, these kinds of message boards might be your foot in the door, or so to speak. Of course, working on the deceased would be a different ballgame, but again, I think you'll probably need to start with live subjects. You never know, you might find someone on one of those boards who knows the deal about working in a funeral home. Here's a good one to start with: http://www.makeupalley.com/ Best of luck!

Your gonna have to become a mortician, then specialize. In most funeral parlors the mortician does the makeup.

go talk to your local mortition. Probably will only be a part time job but hey I am sure they would love the help and a live person to talk to!!

Contact a local funeral home and ask them how to go about it. They should point you in the right direction.

You do have to attend a funerary services school, unless you plan to kill ppl yourself and put makeup on them...

Why not do it for live ppl? Dead bodys give me the creeps. I swear my great grandma smiled at me in her coffin!!!!! Good luck.
