What career opportunities are there for a big box retail manager outside of retail industry?

You might try this exercise. Carry out what is called a skills audit, that is, write a big list of all the things you can do that relate to work. It will take some time to flesh out all the details but there should be at least 30 - 40.
Next, on a new sheet write out all the things you would love to learn that a new job might be able to teach you.
Next, write out a list of all (and there should be heaps) the jobs that could even remotely fit the criteria. That is, you could do it, enjoy it, and you could learn something.
Lastly, refine the list over a day or two until you end with say 5 - 10 jobs. Now check and see what each job pays, this will shorten the list again to around 2 - 5. Start seriously looking at what you now have and start checking in real life what they offer you from the list.
As a real life example, a good friend was a bank manager who needed a change, He did this exercise and got into the lawn mowing business. (I know that is a logical progression from banking.) He built the business up and sold off a portion one year later for more than he paid originally. He repeated this process nine times before finally selling out altogether and retiring at 53 years of age 8 years after leaving the bank.
