If I become a certified nurse's assistant (CNA) in Illinois, what do I have to do to work in another state?
Asked by Tara J
Do I just need to pass their certification exam or do I have to complete another course to become certified?

It would depend on the state--you may have to take their exam, or you may have to take another class or two to be licensed to work in another state. At the very least, you may just be able to apply to transfer your Illinois license. If you can, try to find out what other states nearby and find out which one has the strictest rules and see if you can take classes there. I knew a girl who wanted to be a massage therapist, so she researched what state had the strictest requirements, and went to school there. Her idea was that if she got her degree there, she could go anywhere in the US and get a job without having to take any additional classes. The same may be true for your degree.

Pack your things and move. I dont know that such a certification is transferable. However, take a current copy of your certification with you when you do apply for work after your move. Generally, a new employer will help you if they want to hire you on.
