I want to break into the veterinary field?
Asked by Pickles_FTW
I don't have a college education at this time, and, if you look at my past questions, I have lost a few jobs due to attendance issues caused by depression. I have always, always loved animals (even to the point of having to get rabies shots when I was like 3 because I picked up a stray cat), and have thought about going into veterinary medicine since I was in Junior High School, but I don't know where to start. I can't afford school right now, otherwise I would be in it. Are there any suggestions? I really want this to happen!

Speaking to a local veterinarian could be a good start. Ask as many questions as you can about where/how to begin and what to expect. Making a list beforehand couldn't hurt so you don't accidentally leave anything out. Don't worry about possibly annoying the veterinarian you choose to ask; any information you can get is valuable. I just checked out a website that has some things on it, but the requirements seem rather demanding. http://www.talktothevet.com/faqvetcareer.HTM Still... asking someone who has already completed the process of becoming a vet can at least get you pointed in the right direction..

I actually ran across a few opportunities that you may be interested in while looking for jobs for myself. i didnt look at all the opportunities in the second link, but these are probably tough to get into...so if you dont get it this year, you got something to work towards later.... http://jobsearch.studentjobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=66064331&AVSDM=2008%2D01%2D17+11%3A47%3A45&Logo=0&q=animal+intern&FedEmp=N&sort=rv&vw=d&brd=3877&ss=0&FedPub=Y&SUBMIT1.x=79&SUBMIT1.y=14&SUBMIT1=Search+for+Jobs http://jobsearch.studentjobs.gov/jobsearch.asp?q=animal+intern&jbf522=&FedEmp=N&tm=&sort=rv&vw=d&brd=3877&ss=0&FedPub=Y&SUBMIT1.x=79&SUBMIT1.y=14&SUBMIT1=Search+for+Jobs
