Career Questions and Answers
So, about getting a job at Barnes & Noble....?
Asked by xboxguy15@sbcglobal.net
Yeah, I know there are literally hundreds of questions about working or applying to B&N on Yahoo! Answers, but I need some specifics answered.
I just turned in my application last Tuesday.
My questions...
1 - What are the chances they'll have a job open for me? I just wrote down "Bookseller/Stocker" in the job title. I know I'm being general, but the B&N is located in a mall. It's a moderately-sized anchor store, two levels, and pretty big. It's located in the general Milwaukee area.
2 - Somebody who claimed to be a former B&N employee said if you give your application to any employee at B&N, it'll never get to the right person. I gave mine to the information desk. The lady I handed it to seemed responsible, and friendly, and said "Oh sure!" when I gave it to her. What are the odds that the right person has it?
3 - They haven't called me, and it's now six days after I turned in the application. Is this ok? Should I even bother calling tomorrow?
Thanks for everybody who answered.
Today I called them, and the lady said that she didn't think the hiring managers had looked at my application, but she took down my name and said she would "flag" it for them to took at.
Thanks for all the supportive answers.

Dude... CALL. what do you have to lose by calling? you just call them and say " I dropped off an application the other day and was wondering if you're still hiring?" and than hopefully someone will ask you for your name and look it up, or transfer you to a manager, but don't sweat calling. If anything it makes you look more enthusiastic about wanting to work there and thats a good thing.

My sister applied (she wasn't hired) as a seasonal worker. She handed it to an employee and it landed in the right hands, and about two weeks later she received a letter stating she was "overqualified" for the job.
About a year thereafter she found a job as a Library Page (stocker) in our local library.
Not sure if this will help specifically, but it does relate.
Good luck!

Let assume that you have an outstanding resume at that you make to the top of the stock of resume of peaple to be called for an interview. You and maybe nine or ten other equally qualified peaple for the position that is.
bec. companies have so many candidates to choose from they are interviewing more peaple so that they can select the best when you are lucky enough to be invited to an interview,it is let the enterviewers know what makes you unique, what added value you can bring to the position. In other words why you are the best person for the job.
