Need an objective for my resume?
Asked by jerrisingley_arbonne
Ok, I need an objective for a resume. I am working toward my associate's degree in criminal justice, have been a police dispatcher for a year, have receptionist experience, and am looking to apply for a part time security officer position to bring in a little extra money. I want an objective that sounds professional that I can continue to use as I further myself professionally down the road. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

To successfully secure a position using already acquired skills while enhancing my work experience.
use something along the lines of this but fluff it up a bit with your experience and what you want to do.

No you don't. You don't need an objective.
Everyone who is starting with their resume thinks they need an objective. But think of what an objective is - it's saying, "this is what I'm looking for..."
They don't care. You apply to something because you think you're a fit. You want to show them "hey, I can work for you and am the best, and this is why..." not "this is how I can use you..."
Instead of making an objective statement, I would state your qualities, either in a few phrases or in bullets. Use action verbs.
MOST professionals don't use objectives. End of story.
I HIGHLY suggest using your college's career center for help though. It's always good to get outside help.

Gear your objective toward the job you are applying for at the time. If you are applying for a security officer position then your objective should be something like: To obtain a position as a security officer to help further my academic endeavors.
As you apply for different positions you will need to restate it as it applies to that position.

You need to tailor the objective to the job for which you are applying. For the security officer job try something like:
I am looking for a security position that will enhance my current criminal justice program. I have gained skills in X, Y and Z and look forward to the challenge of putting them to practical use.
