How do I become a professional sushi "cook"?

I like to become a real professional sushi "cook".
How lon is the training and do I need to go to Japan to train?

think of it as you would any other chef job. How does a chef learn to be a chef? A mixture of schooling and on the job training.
Basically, you need a job in a japanese kitchen. You need to find a mentor. The pay will be crappy but you will learn a lot.
then if it is what you thought it would be, and you still really want to pursue it. Look into going to Japan to learn.

I wouldn't say you have to go to japan... No, but if your sushi's good, give some to family and friends, and get their honest opinion.
Everyone loves sushi, so maybe try getting a loan, and opening up your own restaurant. It'll be hard at first, but then, technically, you're a professional chef.

Take special culinary classes in the art of making sushi. It IS a course and profession that requires expertise.
