Will taking the health unit coordinator course get me a job at mayo?
Asked by JessJess
I want to get into mayo in Rochester and have seen that there is a course for a unit coordinator at RCTC. Does anyone know if this plus a B.A. Degree in Mass Comm. would be good enough to get me a job at Mayo?

I live in Phoenix AZ. I received a certificate in health unit coordinating a couple of years ago and, to get the certificate, you had to complete a 140 hour clinical at a hospital for work experience . Most students are offered a job by these hospitals when they complete their clinicals. I applied many times to work at Mayo Clinic hospital here in Phoenix but they didnt seem to count my clinical as work experience. Find out if RCTC does this because many hospitals will not offer you a HUC position without at least 6 months experience. Please be aware that this is a VERY demanding position and the pay tends to be on the low side. People who tend to stay in this position are those who plan on becoming nurses. Good luck to you.

applying for a job and getting hired is the best way to start working at any hospital -do it.
