In TX just as in CA, they hire illegals for most residential construction jobs. They do have a lot of new developments going but the profit margins are very tight when you talk about a new house that sells for anywhere between $100K and $150K. Your dad could do a lot better by moving to the Midwest where a good framer can get $25/hr.
