Asked by renegade_husky
I am buying a piece of real estate and the lawyer as well as the real estate agent say there is no need to sign a "representation contract" with the lawyer, for her to deal on my behalf Is this legal and safe? The woodlot is located in NB Canada

Best Answer:
Not sure about Canada, but in the USA I wouldn't let anyone represent my interests without a Representation Contract.

I am in 100% agreement with cowboy. Especially when it comes to Real Estate. I would never perform any transaction without some type of contract. Considering Canada's laws are so much different than those in the US I sincerely wouldn't take a chance without one. My family and I bought a condo in Miami Beach a few years ago. Believing the salesperson, etc.... We did not secure an attorney or go through the contract jargon against our better judgement. It was the worst mistake we made in our lives and never again. Point is this happened right in our backyard. Get a contract. Do not make the same mistake we made.
