I am considering becoming a CNA ( certified nurse's aide). What is the pay like and is it a good job generally
Asked by Dancin'BearMamma
Also, I was wondering if there is such a thing as seasonal positions for this kind of work, as I plan to take a 3 month vacation this winter and may do so every other year. How is the schedule in terms of having a family? Is it easy to become an LPN afterward? Please share! THANK YOU =)

I am a CNA.
If you work in a nursing home or hospital, you will probably work 7-3, 3-11, 11-7 or 12 hour shifts. If you work for a home health care agency, it is a little more flexible. 1st shift would be good for someone with a family. But usually there is a shift difference paid to people that work 2nd, 3rd shift or the weekends.
If you want to take 3 months off, I would work for an agency rather than a hospital or nursing home. Just explain that to them in the interview and see if they can work with you.
I wouldn't say it is easy to become an LPN. You will have to apply at a community college and probably take prerequisites. Then the actually nursing classes usually take a year.

you'll work with elderly people. Most times you have to give almost total care for people.. Some of your duties will be:
Bathing (including shaving)
Changing (as in diapers)
Assist in eating
Assist in dressing & undressing
Changing bandages (often times the RN will do)
The pay for this really depends on your location. This type of job has a high turnover rate so the 3 month vacation would most likely mean you have to gain either a new position elsewhere or an entry level position at the same location.
Good luck
