what are some jobs that i can get at the hospital without a college degree? and somehow work my way up?
Asked by secret~stranger
so i am interested in the medical field. i feel that there is always a need for someone to care for patients and what not..and this field is high in demand with lots of benefits. never goes out of style...and is highly respecteable.. only thing is..i currently don't have a college degree.. but i DO love to work at the hospital (possibly go back to school..once i get my foot in the door..) are there any jobs that are available for non-grads? i don't want to end up a custodian or a cafeteria worker..or anything along those lines. i'm thinking more of a like an assitant or something..or desk operator...or pretty much anything that has to do with interacting with people...(i am willing to train for it too) any suggestions???

Great question, try visiting your local volunteer fire department. They are almost always understaffed and will usually pay for you to be trained as an EMT. Then you volunteer one overnight shift every 5 to 7 days and you get to go out on emergency calls. Once you are certified you will be qualified to work in the ER and the hospitals will usually even provide additional training at no cost. I am an EMT and a friend of mine did this. She was hired within weeks of being certified an EMT. EMT certification only takes a few months with classes one night per week.

I'm pretty sure most, if not all jobs in the medical field require extra schooling to interact with patients. But I'm not 100% sure, so it'd be best to do a little research.

There is a job which is called a caregiver. You take care of the patients and attend to their needs. You can also work as a nursing aide but that needs a few months training. It is similar to a nursing job but to a lower degree. Goodluck!

you can be a unit secretary on a hospital floor, you will get to know a lot of medical conditions and terms and become familiar with hospital protocols. you can also become a nursing assistant or certified nursing assistant. this is a very rewarding although demanding job where you will learn a lot about medical conditions and illness and really help people. if you find these positions rewarding and want to go further, many hospitals will pay for you to continue education. good luck.

There are loads of jobs that don't require a college education. But it is a smart idea to go back and get more education, allowing you more choices of employment for years to come. Even people with a college education end up getting more education/training as they work. Most human resource departments have a list on the wall outside their office or you can check out online. Check out jobs in the billing department, i.e., billing input, insurance billing, etc. Check out jobs as a therapy aid. Check out jobs in the intake section. Some times getting your foot in the door, showing supervisors you have the motivation to work hard and learn will open doors to other job opportunities, good luck

CNA's only go to school for 3 months and that is a GREAT start to becoming a nurse or any other allied health field! plus, they make like 12-15 an hour which is more than youd make working as a receptionist or something like that without a college education. Just a suggestion! good luck hun! :]
