What steps do I take if I want a career as an automotive technician?

I'm a sophomore (almost junior) in high school and I have an intense interest in cars and am deciding for a career in the future because of this. Can someone explain, in detail, the steps to doing this. Also, is there anything I can do in advance that would be beneficial to this? Thanks in advance!!

if your HS offers auto shop take it. do tune ups etc. for friends and family. check out and read auto repair manuals from the library. after HS go to tech school. invest in a good set of tools like snap on, craftsman, or matco. check with local salvage yards to see if they need a part time parts puller. good luck
