Aplying for an apprentiship painter and decorator.?
Asked by Nic_fin1
Im 16 in July and ive appiled for an apprentiship with my local council as a painter and decorator, When i told a few people ecpecially guys they just laughed it off. Some people said i would have a good chance as they are constantly looking for more female workers comming into that kind of industry. Ive been put through to the aptitue test which is the first stage and better than being unsuccesfull. So what does evryone think of my chances ?

As a painter and decorator myself for many years, I would like to offer some advice if I may.
If it is not an area of special interest to you, there are so many trades that pay much better. Just consider your options carefully!
Good luck to you.

why do you want to be a painter and decorator in the first place?
there are a multitude of better paid employment opportunities for a young woman, ie i.t or offshore engineering just to name a few.
if you are hell bent on doing this in a predominently mans world then go for it, its one of the few trades where you can make a lot of money outside your normal hours if you want to do "homers". there,s always people willing to pay for the "black economy" cos you will be cheaper than paying a full time professional,
(and before anyone starts complaining you all know it goes on, any tradesman will admit they,ve done it)
also when you come out of your time and if you want to start your own business then there is a lot of people who do not want to employ a man to do their decorating and will only use a woman, it will depend on your catchment area and competition.
yes go into the mans world and take them on,
on the plus side, you know your own house will be deco,d properly!!!!!
